Painful strees Fractures

(4 discussions)

I’m a soccer player. about 4 months ago I had stress fracture on my right shin bone. It wasn’t so painful back then. That’s why I ignored it. After another month my both shins had strees fracture.
It became so painful. After changing 2 docs, the 3rd doc found out what was going on. Because I had it on 2 legs the healing process became so hard. I cant use crotches, It applies too much pressure on one leg. I have 2 casts on my legs now, but I still have pain.
I dont have any activities. I wake up in the morning, sit on the couch watching tv, or working with computer. Ice used to take the pain away when I didn’t have casts but now it’s just sometimes too painful.
So if anyone has been in this situation or knows about it, plz reply to my messege. I could really use it.
Thank you

Good news! I had your exact same injury as a soccer player 15 years ago. I was at a very high level of professional training, tryouts etc…My stress fractures were so bad I was told I would get a compound fracture if I kept up.
I found a good sports therapist and kept ice on them for 2 months solid. I had to absolutely stop any pounding or kicking for 6 months. They came back after 1 month of resuming training again only not as bad. I had to stop training again for 3 months and resume icing again.
I was fully healed in 10 months.

The schedule I was given was this:
    1. Ice for 20 minutes then heat for 20 minutes 3 times daily.
    2. Increase your calcium intake to about 1500 MG.
    3. Be patient.

I also had a painful and poorly diagnosed stress fracture to my left tibea. It took about 6 months to walk without a crutch and then another 3 months to be able to start to do things I normally did like running. I did not feel truly comfortable until the following ski season or about 14 monhths later. My suggestion is to stay fit, gradually start running on soft terrain, use a bicycle if you can to keep your muscles strong. Be patient, it will end.
