Painless lump on inner ball of left foot

I have recently discovered a painless lump – about the size of an apricot pip – on the inner side of my left foot where the arch meets the ball of the foot.
I live in Shanghai and will start looking for a podiatrist this week.
In the interim, I would be very grateful for any advice you can give me.
Thank you.Julie Gallet

As I have not examined your foot I can not state accurately what this is.A common diagnosis is a plantar fibroma which arises from the plantar fascia. We aren’t sure what causes them. Sometimes they are hereditary. Most of the time if they are painless we let them be. Surgery is indicated only as a last resort for constant pain and failure of conservative options.Of course there are other possibilites. You doctor may want to ultrasound or MRI the area.
