Partial dislocation of collar bone.

(4 discussions)

Hi there. Last week, whilst playing rugby, I hurt my shoulder whilst tackling. I was told I partially dislocated my collar bone, at the inside end i.e. closest to the neck ( I didn’t even know that was possible) and have been put in a sling. Now, a lot of the pain has gone but a large hard lump remains at the bottom of my neck, is this normal. Also, do I need to keep moving it, or keep it completely staionary for it to get as close to fully recovered as possible. Anything would be helpful.Cheers

I have a 3rd degree collar bone dislocation, my right shoulder now is shorter than my left, can anything be done to make them look symetrical again. This happened April 18th in a accident on a Mt. Bike. Ken

Donald, how are things working out for you? I fractured my left clavice in Feb and a month later was putting on a shirt when I badly displaced the bone. Now my collarbone is in a distorted “Z” shape with a lot of extra bone mass. I think your lump is normal from the displaced bone and from new bone forming. Hope everything is working out for you. One note of caution Take it easy, Tom

Ken, I have the same problem and it’s very bothersome. I think a major reconstruction using a steel plate and screws is our only option. Have you learned anything else?Regards,Tom
