Partially torn hamstring….

(2 discussions)

After partially tearing my hamstring, it continues to swell, and it’s impossible to stretch it out.
The tear happened two months ago.
Is rest the only thing that will help the muscle?
What about massage to get blood flowing?
Should I limit walking and stretching? For how long? Any meds I should be taking? Thanks for the help.Scott

: ScottScott,You did not mention if you are an athlete, but hamstring injuries are particularly difficult to fully heal, especially w/o any professional rehab. If you can possibly get to a Physical Therapist, you will be amazed at how much they can help you in even a short period of time. Please try to at least get an evaluation by a PT or ATC to determine how bad your strain is, and to find out what you can be doing (at home) for rehab. It will be well worth the cost of an initial clinic visit. Please let us know what the therapist determines, and good luck! In the meantime, you can’t go wrong with warm (20 minute) tub soaks, followed by light stretching… Do these 3-4 times daily.

Scott, I too partially tore my hamstring. I am taking Vioxx which actually is making it easier to stretch out, but I still cannot fully stretch my leg. What are you doing for yours, maybe we can share stories? -Nicole
