patellar tendonitis

(2 discussions)

I’ve had trouble with patellar tendonitis for about 8 (!) years now, but it’s only getting worse. I tried everything from anti-inflammatory medication to a cortison shot to wearing a patellar strap to icing my knee regularly and doing certain exercises. Nothing is helping. As soon as I get off the anti-inflammatory pills, the knee immediately swells up and is very painful. What else can I do?

Consider prolotherapy. It’s done wonders for my patellar tendonitis. It’s the only thing that heals.Nickhttp : I’ve had trouble with patellar tendonitis for about 8 (!) years now, but it’s only getting worse. I’ve had the same persistent problem for years. The best remedy I have found is not ice, but heat. In particular–whirlpool jets directly in/on/around the kneecap for minimum of 15 minutes, really gets the blood flowing and increases circulation. Remember, ice controls swelling, but also restricts blood flow. All the inflammed agents reside in the tissue and in the blood that pools. You have to re-circulate. Make sure to drink plenty of water to remove the waste from your system. Also, massage the outside muscles of the thighs, quads, and hamstrings–if those muscles are always tight it overloads the patellar tendon. Lastly, if you’ve tried the cho-pat under the kneecap, also put a second one above the knee (below the quad muscle). This will reduce the stress your quad weight puts on the tendon
