Patellar Tendonitis

(2 discussions)

My left knee suffers from Patellar Tendonitis, I’m a very active 27 y/o. I receive this burning sensation when my knee is bent for more than 5 minutes or so, as in riding in cars, etc. I play basketball as well and have been told to ice it before and after I play and also to stay off of it. I honestly don’t want to stop playing basketball, so is there anything that I can do to remedy this situation?

Your condition sounds a bit unusual; have you followed up with an Orthopedist recently? If not, that is the first step. You might want to ask the Orthopedist for a referral to a good PT…one that specializes in Sports Medicine. The PT would probably be able to treat you initially, and also show you some knee exercises to do which would help with patella tracking. He might also be able to get you a knee brace made for your condition.

Hey, my left knee is in pain when I engage in plyometric drills and basketball games. I’m 22 and have goals with my basketball. I have this pain right below my kneecap. I can’t dunk of one foot anymore nor can I dunk with two in comfort. I’m going stop playing basketball for 2 months and see if the pain will go away and I’ll attend therapy 2 times a week. What are the chances of bounce back from this problem? Can you tell me if you know of any athlete that has encountered this problem and how they overcame it? Thank you for your time.
