Pelvic Problems

(2 discussions)

Does anyone have my problems?
Over the past two years I manage to lock the pelvic joint (either forwards or backwards) and/or the sacro-iliac joint (either to the left or right). My osteo says that it is caused by a sudden jolt to the legs, or over stretching. He diagnoses the problem and cures it simply by gently rocking the joint free again.
He assures me that he treats four or five people every day with similar problems.
I’ve been a keen runner for over twenty years and don’t want to give up. This has only started recently and keeps me off the roads for days, even weeks at a time.
Once or twice for this injury, but i’m up to about ten now!
Can anyone reassure me that the problem does come to an end?

Just a guess, but there must be something that is causing it to happen. If you can find out what, then maybe you could avoid doing it, or strenghthen that area so it’s strong enough to cope with the activity.

No good treating the symptoms, aim to find out the cause. Without knowing what the cause is, you cannot stop it!!!!!

Like I said, just a guess, it may not be as simple as that. I don’t know!

I have the exact same problem. I have been running for 17 years. About 10 years ago I had an SI joint injury and recovered with some rest and PT.
Last summer I started back with the problem and went through 3 months of PT to no avail.
Now for the past 3 weeks I have been seeing a chiropractor.
I alternate locking on both sides – one leg will be shorter than the other, and she adjusts me by pushing down on my sacrum a couple of times. I thought that if I just laid off running for a few weeks and allowed the muscles/ligaments to readjust to the correct position, that maybe it would stay put.
Well the other day I walked about a mile on hills, and it threw me out of alignment again. Now the plan is for me to avoid hills for awhile, but I must say, I am getting very discouraged.
My xrays reveal quite a bit of asymmetry. I have scholiosis, which might be a contributing factor -that and the fact that I’m 41. The joints where my leg bones attach to the pelvis are just a fraction off, so I’m going to try running with a lift on the one side.
Please keep me posted on anything you learn, and I’ll do the same for you.
