Physical Therapy for broken Tibia

(4 discussions)

My son broke his leg in 5 places in May.
He is finally starting extensive physical therapy and suddenly has developed a bad pain in his arch area of his foot.
He thinks the heal raises he was doing has caused this. His leg has become over worked and he cannot do a heal lift now at this time after being able to just a few days ago. Any suggestions?
I know he can ask his pt, but it is the weekend!! Thanks

My daughter broke her tibia above the ankle last week, it was a complex but not compound fracture. She had surgery 4 days later. the doctor said he drilled holes and sutured it, no pins. It is still very swollen 5 days after surgery, her foot is black and blue and she is hardly moving it. We are still putting ice on frequently through out the day. I think she needs to start with some simple excercises. The doctor told her to flex it once in a while and that’s all she will do. I’m so afraid of her losing use of the leg or forming a blood clot. Any suggestions for some simple excercises that can start to get her back on her feet?

I am 58, and I broke my left tibia just above the ankle, had surgery, and now, 8 weeks later I am ready putting some weight on the leg, more gradually over time. What physical activities/exercises should I do to resume my normal activity asap? I was relatively active before the break…running a mile or so a day and walking and riding bikes.
