Physical Therapy Schooling

(2 discussions)

I was just wondering what you majored and minored in during college. I would like to be a physical therapist and sports trainer also, but I’m not sure if I should major in physical therapy and minor in sports medicine. Please give me some advice. Thanks, Kelsey

You need 2 years of pre-req's before you can even apply to the PT program. It's courese like math, physics, chemistry, biology, sociology, art, etc. Call the college that you would like to attend (the PT dept) and ask them to send you a list of all the courses you need to apply for the PT program. If you plan to go to a college then transfer for your PT schooling, make sure all the courses you are taking transfer to that school. Will save you lot's of money and time. Good luck, Mya

The requirements for being Nationally Board Certified as an Athletic Trainer now require that students attend an accredited University. I would recommend that you inquire into this first, as most PT programs will accept students from any good university. If, however, you are thinking about becoming an ATC, you need to attend a school with an accredited program. Then you can take your normal science courses, as those are pretty much the same for the ATC program and for PT school. Good luck!
