PIN REMOVAL FROM BROKEN ARM

(2 discussions)

HOW PAINFUL IS THIS PROCEDURE? MY SON HAS TWO PINS THAT ARE TO BE REMOVED. HE BROKE BOTH BONES ABOUT 2 INCHES ABOVE THE WRIST. ONE OF THE BONES MOVED SO THEY INSERTED TWO PINS. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.THANKSSHANE

I had a similar break just above the wrist, with four pins, and when they were removed there was a slight sting when the pins first turned and no other pain after that. Bleeding was very minimal. Your son should do just fine with the pin removal, it was quite a sight to watch.

I recently broke mt wrist resulting in 3 fractures (ulna, radius and the distal end of the bone just below my thumb) and dislocated the lunate. I have 3 pins, 2 on my thumb side and 1 just underneath my baby finger. How are the pins removed? What do the pins presently (within my wrist) do and how are they positioned within my wrist?
