pinkie toe

2 1/2 weeks ago on a sprint to the bathroom I caught the corner of the door facing as I rounding the bathroom door with my pinkie toe.
I severly traumatized it and the pain was incredible.
I called a friend of mine who is an ER physician to get advise and he said to just buddy tape it….that there’s not alot they can do for a broken toe.
The next few days were awful….
I’m a pet sitter and walking dogs is my lively hood….needless to say I was miserable.
Two days later I called my podiatrist who saw me straight away.
He suspected at minimal a stress fracture (do to the bruising on top of my foot and the toe looked like a purple grape) but the x-rays were negative for fractures.
He did remove a portion of the toenail and that revealed a good size hematoma.
That done the pounding pain quit and I could at least manage to put a shoe back on.
The toe improved and the bruising has faded but the toe is still swollen and painful (burns and stings) to bend at all…..also a little numb along the bottom.
Should I be concerned that I’ve torn a ligament or something.
I would think I’d see more improvement than this after 2 1/2 weeks.

Please help! I broke my pinky toe almost a week ago and it still throbs and burns. Walking is almost impossible or standing on my foot for any length of time. Is it true you need a soft cast sometimes? I need to work for a living and I am in a panic. Thank-you
