plantar facitious

I have been recently diagonsed with this. Could you explain exactly what it is and what you would do to cure this. I have heard of stretches however I’m not sure exactly how to do them. I have been prescribed anti inflamatories and told to wear gel inserts for the next ten days or so. I would just like to be more informed and do whatever I can not to have that infamous shot. Also I run. Good idea or not?
ThanksCeleste

This is an inflammation of the plantar fascia due to many variables. There are many ways of treating this problem and therefore you should be open to change. Do not expect this problem to resolve immediately. Some common treatments are pre-fab inserts, oral anti-inflammatory medicines, steroid injections, ice, stretching, night splints, physical therapy, custom orthotics and even surgery if all else fails. The majority of patients will do well with conservative treatment. I can’t tell you without an exam if you should still run, I would probably suggest that you switch to a bike or swim as a temporary way of decreasing the stress on your feet. Your shoes need to also be evaluated. There are many resources on the web for more information. Type in plantar fasciitis in your search engine and remember that everyone is an expert on someone else’s body!
