plantar fasciia tear

(2 discussions)

Hello.
I have been diagnosed with a complete tear of the medial bundle of the fasciia and a partial of the lateral bundle.
I have had this occur over the period of 4 years.
I have been to a total of 6 doctors and no one knows what to do for me.
I have completed a 1 1/2 mth of complete non-weight bearing but the MRI follow up shows no improvement.
I don’t have diabetes or anything that could explain why I am not healing.
Can you make a suggestion?
Thank you.
Sincerely, Rebecca Dameron.

There could have been some ongoing repetitive strain that caused a weakening or focal necrosis of the plantar fascia. If it had been injected with an insoluable corticosteroid then that could have also weakened it. When heel spur surgery is done, the plantar fascia is cut. Usually it is the medial and sometimes the central band. It has been discussed in the literature that if the lateral band is cut it can destabilize the lateral column of the foot. Healing can be affected by many factors such as smoking, activity level, medications that are taken (such as anti-inflammatory medications or certain antibiotics) the list goes on. I am sorry I do not have any specific pearls of wisdom for you. I hope you get well soon.

I developed plantar fascia in Late Jan. again for the second time in the past 4 years. Last week, playing tennis I reached for a ball and felt like it snapped. I couldn’t touch my foot down at all. The Doc said it was a ruptured fascia. I’m in a foot splint. Does that mean it tore completely like surgery or just a partial tear? I had been wearing a foot splint at night, Wearing inserts from the good feet store for over a year, icing after playing, and streching exorcises. All the right stuff and it seemed to be getting better. Then Snap!! I’ve been reading about a deformity similar to pes planus. Do you think it tore completely or just partial?
