Podiatrist vs. Orthopaedic surgeon
I have a swollen 4th left toe.
Xrays indicate bone tumor (enchondroma or giant cell tumor), followup MRI is inconclusive (report says soft tissue abnormality).
Do I need a podiatrist or an MD, and what are the advantages to each?
Also, what institutions are considered leading edge in these kinds of issues?
I live in the Midwest.

A Boad certified podiatrist is a good option. Podiatrists have much more training in the foot than does a general orthopedist. There are foot and ankle orthopedist specialists as well. You should see whoever makes you the most comfortable.
