pop in right calf…

My girlfriend was running to make a shot in a tennis match and she felt a pop in her right calf. She thought she had been hit by a ball from the other court.
I am icing it now 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off. There is no swelling or discoloration. She can raise her toes to flex the muscle by raising her toes and extending her heel downward. She can’t flex the calf if she lowers her toes and raising her heel. She is not on excruciating pain and she was able to walk up about 15 steep steps to my apartment.
Should I keep icing it or take her to the ER

    Mike,
You did not give the age of your girlfriend, but if she is over the age of 30, this injury sounds like a classic case of an Acute Achilles Tendon Rupture. I would advise her to see an Orthopedic Surgeon as soon as possible. If it is, indeed, a complete tear of the Achilles Tendon, the surgeon might be able to re-attatch the tendon if she can get to surgery soon. Please try to persuade her to see the Orthopedist ASAP, and let us know the diagnosis and prognosis.
