Possible ACL tear/or Meniscus

(2 discussions)

Hi, My name is Jess, i was playing soccer in the all star league, which is quite intense, i got slidechecked and I heard a LOUD pop noise, then I could not hold my slef up on my right knee. Funny thing is, it bruised..a little bit, and not right away after, same with the swelling, there was some, but not directly afterwards. I went to the emergency room at my hospital, they gave me an immobilizer to keep on until I see the orthopedic specialist , it has been 2 weeks, adn i still have to wait a week to get in. I am now able to stand, walk, slow passes with a ball, not running, as it swells,:O and I am pain-free. It will be a shocker if I really hurt it becuz I am captain of my team this year, anyone have any advice or ANYTHIGN to help me out????

    Hi again,
Thanks so much for your answer!!! I have been careful about the amount of excercise I have been up to, but I talked to the specialist and he fitted me for a hinged brace, He said that it was a possible MCL, because he could definately tell that my ACL was fine, I am just keeping my fingers crossed…. My coach and the doc said to stay outta soccer for 2 more weeks, then we’ll see… that means 4 games, 6 practices, but I can live… Thanks again, Jessika

    Hi Jess,

Yeah it does sound like you may have injured your ACL or possibly your MCL if you werent “planting and cutting” when you heard the pop.

DO NOT try to practice or play on it until cleared by the doc! The fact that it is getting better on its own is a good sign but if you have injured something it will take a good 6 weeks for it to be fully healed.

You can do anything the doesn’t hurt or make it swell during or after but ice it frequently (no longer than 15 minutes at a time then wait for the skin to warm up before icing again) to bring circulation to the area and reduce inflammation.

See what the doc says before doing anything that might make it worse and keep you sidelined for longer.

    Good Luck,
    Muscledawg.
