Possible grade 3 tear of Medial Ligament in elbow.
Hi,
I have reinjured my medial ligament in my elbow. It is at best a very bad grade 2 and we have not yet totally ruled out a grade 3.
My main question is how strong is scar tissue?
I was always of the oppinion that scar tissue made the area stronger than before, but that the problem is it’s not very flexible. Hence why rehab involves frictions and stretching etc. to soften it.
I am presuming that the ligament will heal with a mass of scar tissue replacing the missing parts. If I can get the correct rehab, how strong could it be?
I do martial arts and it involves alot of armlocks, so I am reckoning it won’t be strong enough. Is there any chance I could recover enough to train lightly and carefully with it? I have been told it will never be right now, but haven’t been told to quit, just that I will need a hinged support from now on whenever I train.
Same question goes for if it turns out to be a grade 3? Obviouly then it will need surgery. What is the future prognosis? Will waiting a few weeks make any difference to surgery?
Any help or advise welcome. Thanks alot.
Sarah.

scar tissue is just as strong as normal tissue but only if you do the correct rehab ( warnm area stretch area then cool down)extends the ligaments. to give full range
