Post-Op Recovery
I had arthoscopic surgery on a muniscis tear. Becuase of my pharamcist improperly labeling my persciption of Vioxx as stricly a pain medication, I avoided taking it. After my post-op visit with my Orthopeadic doctor, he re-prescribed my taking Vioxx in order to get rid of the swelling, and if it doesn’t go away, that hwe would have to drain it. Here’s my question, will Vioxx do the job since I am taking so long after the operation, or should it go down in a few days of taking the proper doses? I really don’t want to have my knee drained – I’ve heard it is extrememly painful! Please advise…

Lots of ice, 3 to 4 times per day, and vigorous exercise should do the trick. Vioxx or any over the counter anti inflammatory works only if you take it regularly. Try ice and exercise, bike, leg raises, etc for 2 weeks and I bet the swelling will go down. Is the range of motion in your knee normal? Please let me know how it is doing.
