prolonged pain big toe & top of foot

Hello.
I have had fairly constant pain/ache for the past couple of months mostly on the top of my big toe & connecting top portion of my foot.
There has never been any bruising or swelling ~ it looks fine.
It worsens while putting on shoes, and during strenuous activity, but it also aches even when sitting down or lying in bed.
It hurts most when I kneel (with my toes and top of my foot against the floor).
I have no memory of stubbing my toe or dropping anything on it.
I have assuming it would eventually just go away, but it remains fairly constant???
