pronating feet in a 2 year old

(2 discussions)

I have just been told by a physical therapist and a foot specialist in a shoe store that my 2 year old has excessive pronation of both her feet. We thought it was weak ankles, because she was a preemie. They said they thought she would greatly benefit from a build up in the shoe. Can I get this from anyone other than an orthopaedic doctor? I live very far from the city out on acreage. Is it possible to get an imprint of her foot and do this by mail order? Your oppinion would be greatly appreciated. Can you direct me to anyone?
Thank you looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Ann

You don’t indicate where you live, but shoe build ups are of questionable value. An inshoe othotic is the most likely thing to benefit your child. Keep in mind this will not cure, the same as eye glasses do not cure and will need to be replaced as the child grows.Birkenstock makes a good cork and leather orthotic with a deep heel cup. I don’t know who you could send an imprint of the foot to. Perhaps there is a podiatrist near you who can help
