Radial head fracture

(7 discussions)

Is it normal to not be able to extend your elbow with a radial head fracture after three weeks? It is a non-displaced “clean” break from what I’ve been told and I should be straigtening at this point. I have been working hard on stretching it so I doubt it’s lake of effort and merely just not enough time to heal. Thoughts?thank you

I broke mine 11 weeks ago and STILL cannot straighten. It looks really deformed. I have had loads of physio, exercise and have been swimming. Still get pain evry day and am uncomfortable at night.

I broke mine only 4/52 ago and like yourself I cannot straighten or flex my arm. I can’t eat with it, clean my teeth etc etc. Will it ever improve? I have not reached the physio stage yet and am preying it will give me some mobility back. Can I be positive ?

I have a radial head fracture now on my right elbow (non-displaced type). I have some questions.(a) How long will it take to remove the plaster?(b) How long do I need to go for the physiotherapy?(c) Can it be 100% recovery?(d) Any risk of arthritis? Please revert asap.

I too have a radial head fracture I’m recovering from. I’ve been told that it’s very common not to be able to straighten it. I’m 10 weeks out from initial injury date and still cannot straighten in, despite ALOT of physical therapy.Hope this helps!!

I also have a Radial Head Fracture, I am currently 7 months into it, with no therapy I still can not straighten the arm, nor can I bend it towards my body, can not eat, brush teeth, wash hair, nothing. I am also still unable to rotate my hand palm up completely. I try to work with it every day but I still have uncomfortable nights and postions and if I over use it, there is pain that still occurs.

I’m right with you guys, I fell from a ladder in late July with a radial head fracturer. Dr said it was a nice clean crack and not dislocated. I am Painter so I am a bit concerned that I still can not straighten my elbow. I was back to work after just 3 weeks but it does not seem to be getting any closer back to normal.

i had two radial head fracture 6 weeks ago, with minimal displacement, but several break lines. My left arm wasn’t as bad in the first place and is now basically fine, but my right arm still has pain rotating and extending, though it is minor. I have full mobility, hyperextension in fact, but there is a creaking or popping noise when I extend my elbow, don’t know if anyone has had this
