RDS and plantar fasciitis

Dear Sir, I have plantar fasciitis, and it is a severe case of it. I have had shots, viox, night splits, professionally made inserts, therapy, bone scan, vascular studies, nerve conduction study tests. Now my doctor is sending me to cronic pain doctor to see if I have RDS. What exactly is RDS he explained it something to do with the nerves. I don’t have any health elments like dibetic, or high blood pressure. I guess you could say I was in great health except when I was little I had rumatic fever. My plantar fasciitis has been going on for over a year now. This is my second doctor and they both say I have the condition of plantar fasciitis.
But my doctor says that I shouldn’t have such severe pain as I do. I also have numbness in my little toes and down the left side of my foot. I have also been on crutches. Sincerely Erma Brogan

Has anyone considered that you might have Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome? This is similar to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in the hand. The numbness you write of is suggestive of that. Sometimes, the plantar fasciitis can trap up one of the branches of the posterior tibial nerve. A nerve conduction test may not show the sensory component of the nerve. Sometimes I will try a very small amount of local anesthetic aroung the posterior tibial nerve and if the pain goes away, I consider a diagnosis of Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome. That being said, RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) or the new term CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) is a difficult problem to treat. A pain management doctor can determine if you have it. Good luck.
