Re: …Back pain due to disc desiccation/degeneration…

(6 discussions)

Impressions of MRI of Lumbar spine taken in March, 2017.Minimal disc desiccatio/degeneration is identified at the L2-3 and L3-4 levels, mild disc desiccation/degeneration is at the L4-5 level and moderate disc desiccatio/degeneration is at the L5-S1 level. A small broad-based disc bulge without evidence of herniation is at the L4-5 level.
Small central focal disc bulge without evidence of herniation is identified at the L5-S1 levels. Facet joint hypertrophy/degeneration is identified bilaterally at the L4-5 and L5-S1 levels.
Is there any alternate treatments to surgery?.
Much pain and would prefer natural remedy.
Please help.

“any alternate treatments to surgery?” YES, It’s called “Chiropractic”.Judging from your MRI report, you’re not a surgical case.

Hi, I have a L5 S1 disk desication with mild diffuse disk bulge. I have pain everyday, and the percocet are starting not to help anymore. I have extreme pain when sitting for periods longer than 15 minutes, as if I were sitting on a sharp knife, and FORGET sitting on hard surfaces. Its like I can feel the dry disk material crunching, AHHHH!!!. I have no insurance, so I’m battling it out with meds, mobic 15mg helps a little but still I have a great deal of pain. I have tried arnica, and any “natural ” remedy. There is none, and if you think chiropractic heals, think again, I was in bed for a week after chiropractic “manipualtion” Injections were a godsend, but too much of that an d you will get osteoporosis. And remember injections only cover up the underlying problem. I am 23, and have had this pain, since 3 years back, after falling while snowboarding in canada, and it has gotten worse and worse. Needless to say I was active in many sports all my life, barley had time to breath… thanks mom and dad 🙂 I figure skated, was on the swim team all of high school, karate, dance, tap, ballet, and jazz, and gymnastics. I have had MANY MANY falls all througout my life, never thought much of it, and this is what I think the outcome is, PAIN, and disk desiccation. Save up and get surgery, I will. I cannot take it anymore, its ruining my life. its the only way.

Find a credentialed McKenzie physical therapist – the website is http://www.mckenziemdt.org. They can tell you in one or two visits if they can help you with your pain. Good luck

Don’t let the MRI rule your decision. Reseach has shown up to a 65% false positive/negative. See a certified McKenzie physical therapist – the website is http://www.mckenziemdt.org They can tell you within one to two visits if they can help you control your pain

I have had two MRI’s and the result’s aredegenerative desiccation and decreeased heightof the lower L4-L5 and to the lesser degree, L5 and S1 disk noted. L4-L5, T2 hyperintensity is present in the posterior midline of the outer annulus conistent with annular fissure with mild associated protrusion of the disk. This causes no appreciable deformity of the adjacent thecal sac, however. L5-S1, posterior midline disk protrusion results in compression of the adjacent thecal sac and appears to contact the proximal S1 root sleeves as well.L4-L5, prosterior midline annular fissure with only very mild associated protrusion suggested causing no appreciable deformity of the adjacent thecal sac.L5- S1 posterior midline and left paramidline disk protrusion appears to contact and deform the ventral thecal sac and may contact the proximal S1 root sleeves as well

Hi, I am in the same boat with Nadia, Kay, and Paula. I believe Chiropractors are great for healthy young backs, but at this point I would stick to physical therapy in the water. There is no compression. Try Capzasin roll on liquid. It is very hot at first and may last 3 days, so go easy at first. It really does ease pain when used regularly. It also regenerates tissue and can help rebuild damaged discs. If you opt for surgery look into x stop implants. I am waiting for the surgery now. good luck
