Re: mild disc desiccation

(4 discussions)

Desiccation means that the disc material which is normally gelatinous in nature is drying up. When this happens the disc height is compromised (loss of disc space) eventually bringing the discs closer together. This is a degenerative process and is known as DDD or degenerative disc disease which I’m sorry to say will eventually lead to degenerative joint disease (aka osteoarthritis). Mild desiccation just means it’s a little dried up and there is probably minimal loss of disc space.

    Hello,
I do have 2 concerns, about the procedure I should follow after I have been been with do many doctors.
I gor my MRI report and it says as follow C5-6 Mild to moderate disc heigh loss and disc desiccation is associated with a mild disc osteophyte complex producing mild anterior thecal sac compression. No significant foraminal stenosis. My question is? Am I okay?, since I do have suvere back neck pain, Inflamation some times and cannot move it right.

I have been diagnosed with this but have far more pain than the information you explained above should be causing. I have have shooting pains up and down my legs, as well as spasms and tender to touch over my entire back. I am also having severe nerve pain.

I wish to know the causes of mild disc desiccation and its treatment and prevention.
