Do you have any diagnosed respiratory problems such as asthma? I have bad asthma which has led to my poor posture and scholiosis. I tend to slouch over because it feels more comfortable and protective of my lungs when I am having trouble breathing. Try to use good posture, sit up straight, and try using exercises to strengthen your back and chest. Your symptoms of pain and discomfort, however, pose reason for concern. You should not be experiencing pain when breathing and should definitely seek help from a doctor. Try just talking to your normal doctor that you would go to for any other ailments. If necessary, he will refer you to a specialist depending on your condition. (These could be an allergy specialist, respiratory therapist, cardiovascular doctor, etc.) Don’t worry about being shy. I am very shy too but have many medical problems. I know from experience how crucial it is to tell the doctors exactly how you are feeling for them to make a correct diagnosis. Also, just a little side note, you are breathing correctly by breathing with your stomach/abdominal muscles. It increases airflow, despite common thought that by heaving your chest up and down you are getting more air to your lungs. You are utilizing your diaphragm by breathing with your “stomach”. Hope this helps! And remember, see a doctor! Don’t let your symptoms get out of hand. And if your parents don’t believe you, make them believe you. Once I just had chest pain that started to increase gradually. My mom didn’t think it was that big of a deal. Thankfully my dad did, and I was diagnosed with a spontaneous pnuemothorax in the ER and had to be hospitalized in intensive care for a week. Feel better!!! 🙂
