Kelly, I have had this same problem since I was about 10 years old, it was extremely painful at times and it eventually stopped hurting as much however it is still painful if I am on my knees doing any kind of work related activity. I am now 52 years old and still very active except not much in basketball anymore, only occasionaly and my knees hurt terribly after that. My oldest son did not get this wnderful gift however my daughter did and currently my youngest son is suffering through it at the age of 13, that is how I found out about your problem. I too went to the internet to see what I could find to help him, I do not want him suffering as I did and still do. I have asked docters about it and they are very dissmissing of it. I wish you luck in your pursuit, please let me know if you do hear of anything.
Thanks,Frank

I have made a report for school about this disease and have learned much. I to suffer from this and I have found the reason. My reports say that it is from usualy active person into sports for example soccer or basketball. Sports are rough on knees and will eventualy show. The pains are from the shin starting to split in half and the knee cap is inbetween each half. This is also caused from growing spurts that your body isnt ready for. I have asked many docters about my problem and they did x-rays to show me just what was going on. The best way to get rid of the pain is to wear a compression wrap around your leg as you are playing your particular sport ifind it helps. This problem has haunted me for some years for if it got hit or hit somthing hard it felt horible. Kids always Hit me in the knees all the time which was the worst feeling I ever have gotten.

I too have the problem. I’ve had it since I was about 11, on both knees. I’m now 50 and it still hurts. I was in the infantry in the army and of course they just thought I was trying to get out of marching when I complained. It just killed me all the time. Don’t even think of bumping it! I think I’d rather have a smack in the privates instead of there. I fell on my right knee 2 years ago and boy, I just almost messed my pants. It is very tender and sore even today. The “knots” are very large and so far haven’t shown a sign of going away. The one on the left is a little larger than a golf ball, on the right somewhat smaller, but both are just as sensitive and painful. I was told the same thing, don’t worry, it’ll go away, and that sugery would hurt more than not doing it….yeah right. I’ve not let it slow me down too much though. Perhaps because I favor them so much (read, baby them) I don’t overexpose them to much. Forget about crawling around on the floor with the grand kids, but other than that just don’t bump/hit them. I don’t expect any improvement but I’m not really worried about not being able to walk eventually though either. They sometimes ache but I always thought that was because I am getting older and there may be some truth to that too. Good luch and try not to worry about them, just protect them is my best advice.
