RE: QUESTION FOR DR. ABRAMS
DR. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN AUSTIN BUNIONECTOMY VERSUS A CHEVRON BUNIONECTOMY? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT TOE SPACERS POST-OP? IS PLANTAR BRUISING NORMAL AND HOW LONG CAN YOU EXPECT BRUISING AND SWELLING NORMALLY? ( GIVEN THE FACT EACH INDIVIDUAL PATIENT HEALS AT DIFFERENT RATES) AN AVERAGE.

An Austin is a chevron. There are numerous variations, just to confuse things. I do use spacers in many but not all patients post op. The bruising can vary from little to a lot depending on the patient. The more bruising, the longer it seems to take to disappear. I have seen discoloration for up to several weeks. As long as it seems to be improving, I do not usually worry.
