I had a stress fracture in the heel that developed after an ankle injury. It took three months for it to be found and an MRI finally was what found it. I was casted for 6 weeks, semi-weight bearing, and was never in any therapy for it. I went back to my normal routine of things.

I just wanted to say that I was in an auto accident June 2 this year, and among other fractures to my body, I broke the right calcaneus…..my bone specialist, said that the options were to operate and put pins in it/however since I smoked the risk of infection was multiplied and the risk of losing the foot were great. (in hindsite i’ve wondered if he said this because i didn’t have health insurance or because the first appointment i could get with him was beyond the best time to do the surgury which is best within that week of injury. he told me that it would take 12-18 months before i’d be able to walk as best as i could expect/and that it would probably always bother me much like arthritis and would require fusion over time…not near as good a prognosis as the reply above…this is the most dehabiliating injury i could imagine….i cannot hobble far and sometimes the tendons curl up my toes and make standing impossible….other times i can hobble to the kitchen, bathroom, etc drive on good days but to go shop for groceries without the electric card would be impossible for me at this time….i am 45 yrs young/used to love to dance/work outside/had 8 horses and rode them regularly….now i don’t have horses because i dont’ see that riding is going to be posible anytime soon…..please let me know if you find any treatments that seem to work…..i do go to reflexology sessions and it does feel very good……still early on though….please advise thanks
