Right Pinky Toe

On June 30 around 830 pm I was putting away groceries in my kitchen. I had stuff lying all around so I went to step over something and kicked the corner of the wall falling to the ground immediately. I had made direct impact with my right pinky toe and the wall. The toe looks completely different from the same on my other foot, there is no brusing still two days later but it is very swollen and red. I have been keeping ice on it and taking ibprofen. It feels like my foot is on fire and tingles sometimes… if you were to take your pinky toe and twist it so the nail is pointing away from you that is what it looks like. I am sure it is broken and there are some white spots surrouding it. Should I go to the doctors, I don’t have insurance and everyone tells me that they can’t do anything for a broken toe… please help! Thank you.

As a podiatrist, it makes me gnash my teeth when I hear “there is nothing you can do for a broken toe.” Actually depending on the fracture, location and position, there are many things we can do. But first you need to see a podiatrist. I am always concerned when people post and say “I don’t have insurance.” as if they can not be seen by a doctor with out it. Not True.If you think about it, you need to assess your needs and wants. If you needed new tires because yours had worn out, you probably would get them. You can try putting a small piece of foam or even gauze inbetween the 4th and 5th toes and taping them together. Be sure to start at the end of the toes and work up to the metatarsal-phalangeal joint. Wear a sandal or loose shoe. Ice and elevate your foot. See a podiatrist for further evaluation.
