Ripped off Toe Nail

(2 discussions)

I almost ripped off my toe nail (toe nail was at an 90 degree angle) today and the nail was taken off under local anaesthesia. They told me to put an antifungal ointment on it after a few days for prevention. There are so many brands with different ingredients, which one would you recommend? Or which ingredient is needed? Do I need to wait for the toe to dry before applying? Thank you for any help.

I would suggest it is more important to use an antibiotic after a nail surgery to prevent a secondary bacterial infection. Commonly used over the counter is Neosporin. Certainly if you want, you can use any over the counter antifungal cream in addition. A very good one is Lamisil. I recommend you clarify the instructions with your doctor.
