Rolled ankle

(2 discussions)

Three days ago I was wearing 2 inch heels and stepped down on uneven ground. My right ankle rolled to the outside. I felt a pop on the outside of my mid-foot and a burning pain in the outside of my calf. The pain continues today on the outside of the foot and up into the outside of my calf, almost up to the knee. The pain in my calf feels like a severely pulled muscle. I did have some tingling in the top of my foot but that seems to have gone away. I have had 8 fractures in my right foot in the last 8 years and this doesn’t feel like fracture pain. I don’t want to bother the doctor if it’s just a pulled muscle but I don’t want to ignore something that might be serious. Any ideas or advice? Thanks in advance for the excellent site and service you provide.

Without examining you I can not state anything for certain. But from your description, at the very least, a ligament was involved. To what degree, I can’t say. I must respectfully disagree with your assumption that only fractures are worthy of having the doctor look at it. I always treat an ankle sprain as carefully as I treat a fracture. Until you get this checked out, please use crutches or immobilize it in an old cast boot you might have from previous injuries.

Thanks for your reply. I made an appointment to get it checked.
