Rotator cuff injury

(2 discussions)

I suffered a massive tear in the Infraspinatus and the Supraspinatus. These could not be repaired.
My shoulder dislocates when I move my arm over my head or quickly reach to pick something up from the ground. Is there anything that can be done to strengthen the surrounding muscles.

Two years ago I partially-tore my supraspinatus while serving overhand in tennis. My rehab program consisted of the typical rotator cuff strengthening exercises (e.g. upper arm rotations with a rubber band providing resistance), followed by exercises to strengthen the deltoid muscles (e.g. dumbell presses, front raises, etc…). I still have occasional pain in my shoulder, but I have full mobility, and about 98% of the strength I had before my injury.

It sounds like your injury is a lot more serious than mine. I assume you had your torn muscles surgically reattached? Did your surgeon refer you to a physiotherapist?

Oct. 1, 2002 I fell and injured my shoulder while playing tennis. MRI and Orthopedist state that I have a “small focus of full thickness tear of the supraspinatus tendon; a high grade partial thickness tear of the distal aspect of the supraspinatus tendon…and a small foci of partial thickness tear of the infraspinatus tendon.”
Nov. 21st, ’02 I had a Cortisone shot. It feels better, but still pains occasionally if I reach to turn the wrong way. I have not played tennis since. It kind of “hurts” fairly often.
Will the supraspinatus tendon ever heal in time…or will I need surgical repair?
