Ruptured right biceipt

On monday 5/2 I hurt my right arm pushing a large 1900 pound zero turn mower off a shipping creat. I have been told by the ER doctor to keep it in a sling and see a orhto surgeon. I have kept it in a sling with little pain and saw the ortho yesterday who said he could re attach the muscle but it would be primarially cosmetic and I would never get all my strenght back. I am a 46 year old healthy 6’1″ 240 ex football playewr that stays active with golf and racket ball and DO NOT want to get cut on. I felt the ortho doc had swayed me against doing a surgery and my wife feel I need it done. PLEASE help me make a good dissision.

Since you are so active I would suggest that you get it operated on. Yes the Doctor is right, you can learn to live with out the biceps muscle because there are several muscles that will take over its function – but you will be a lot weaker. If you have the surgery, don’t wait too long or it will only be cosmetic

I felt the same way and did not want to get cut on eitherGet the surgery done asap! I just had mine done three weeks ago. The recovery has been very easy so far – the first ten days were the most inconvenient.
You don’t want to lose the strength – which may not seem like a lot now but you will regret it 2 years out. Not to mention the physical deformity which will continue to look worse as time goes on.
      Hope that helps
