Im not a surgeon, but I’m a scaphoid fracture victim and I envy you for yours healing 50%!! I just had my second surgery three months ago from breaking it two years ago. The first surgery involved a screw and the bone fell apart. this time it was bone grafted and its still not looking good. I’m saying don’t be surprised if your bone does not heal all the way. it sucks, I know. Mine has a 5% chance of healing completely at this point. I think we’re gonna give up and just take what we can get since these things are known to be casted for up to a year and STILL not heal.

Consider yourselves lucky to not be me. I originally broke my wrist in Sept. When I went to the hospital hear in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada where I live they told me the wrist was not broken and that it was just a sprain and not to worry because it will heal on its own. I went back to the hospital 7 months later to discover that the bone had been broken the whole time and that having worked with a broken scaphoid for this long I probably screwed myself up. Still the doc recomended that I be casted telling me that the bone may still heal. After 4 casts (costly) and 2 braces and another 7 months they told me that I looked like I was healing naturally and that I should come back in 6 weeks for evaluation. This was 2 days ago and they tell me that the bone is not yet healed and now they will have to do bone graph surgery and put a permanent staple into my wrist. I am currently waiting for a second opinion.

I broke my right scaphoid Sept. 11 2018. I was diagnosed within hours of the accident, and cast for almost four months. I then had my first surgery to pin the bone together, that did not work and eight months later I had my second surgery, this time they removed the first screw performed a bone graph and put in a different type of pin. I just went back and I will be going in May 4 2019 for my third surgery, this time a vascular bone graph, and another pin, there is the possibility that they will have to perform a four bone fusion and remove most of the bone instead of repairing the scaphoid. if all this does not work they will have to fuse it anyway. I too have a middle one third fracture.

okay I fractured mine in november 2018. I went to a local hospital (dahlonega, GA) and told it was nothing. I went home (new orleans) from this boarding school in december 2018 and it was still bothering me so I went and saw an orthapedist and he told me it was fractured. I got in 2 seperate casts and after my second one which I got off in march 2019 they put me in a splint and an orthhapedist in dahlonega ordered occupational therapy. I did my therapy for 4 weeks in orlando (i switched to another school) and after that, I went to an othapedic surgeon right in orlando and this doctor said my doctor from dahlonega was crazy becuase my MRI and ct scan showed a classic non-union. he ordered surgery which he said will most likely make it heal or a bone growth simulator which wont have such a good chance. now it is june 21st, 2019 and tomorrow I am schedualed for bone graft surgery after which I will be in a hard cast for about 6 more months. (meaning I cannot lift weights or play football which is a big part of my life) ugh… never had surgery, wish me luck!

Hi, I agree with Roy. I’m currently being treated for scaphoid nonunion (original injury mid 2018 12 weeks casted). I’ve had one failed bone graft surgery previously and have just had second graft surgery. This has been complimented with a bone growth stimulator incorporated into my cast.
