Scar tissue

Does anyone know whether tendonitis causes scar tissue, and if it does, what can be done about it?

Fox, Runnerchick- you both seem to have a welath of knowledge…I know this is an old post but I have some questions… after several sprains and 1 break in the left ankle I’m constantly having problems. IE, shin splints (which seem to have cleared up), PF, Achilles’ “clicking” and tenderness, soreness to the inside of the Achilles’ (between the Achilles’ and the inside ankle bone)… I’ve tried Thera-Band excercises and calf excercises and shoe inserts, asked my Podiatrist to fit me with Orthotics (said there was no need for them!) and he said I should try OTC inserts and “here, buy this night splint for $175.00!” Anyway, is there any effective way to find out if there is scar tissue (I’m pretty sure there is) and how extensive it is? And is there anything I can do about it? Running is my main and most loved activity (simplicity) and I don’t want to give it up. The stiffness seems to be in outer front of my ankle (I broke the very bottom of the fibula and didn’t realize it-walked around for a week before I had it checked out and even though it didn’t appear to be out of alignment it was definitely broken but it was too late to set it) Thanks for any suggestions/help you might offer.

hmmm, thats a good question. chronic inflammation can eat away at a joint, so i dont see why the tendon would be immune to it. typical treatment of choice for a scarred up tendon is some cross-friction massage, not the most pleasant thing, but it works!

I believe that if you strain a muscle too many times that it can cause the build up of scar tissue, which often leads to problems in flexiblitly. However, I’m not realy sure if the same is true for tendonitis.
