Scholiosis

(3 discussions)

I was diagnosed with minor scholiosis when I was 18.
I am now 33, and have suffered lower and upper back pain continually over the years. Can you recommend some exercises for me to help alleviate the pain? My doctor hasn’t helped me at all with this on-going problem. Thanks!

I have Scholiosis, too, but I am only sixteen. My doctor told me some exercises to do to help straighten up and relieve the minor pain. Stand up straight against a wall, everything touching, back, shoulders, and heels. Then bend at the knees, not moving anything that is against the wall, just bending the knees. Hold it for 5-10 seconds. Then stand up straight again. Do this for 10-15 reps, four times a week. It helped me a lot. : Thanks!

Hi – I was diagnosed with the same complaint. It turned out that I had a minor limb length discprepency i.e. my one leg was a bit shorter than the other. I got orthotics from a podiatrist which are basically inserts for my shoes which seems to have sorted out my scholiosis. Doctors will tell you that the two aren’t related, but the truth is that they often diagnose limb length discrepensies as scholiosis. Best place to sort out a limb length discrepensy is a podiatrist. Don’t rely only on your orthapedic surgeon as they don’t know what they don’t know. Go see a podiatrist!!

like almost every one else that has been posting, I too have minor scholiosis. I do have to say that I notice myself sitting up straighter, but the ache and sharp pain starts after a few minutes. what are some exercises that you recommend? I am 5’11”, does that make a difference in the exercises?
