sever back and neck pain

I am 22 years old and have had back pain(upper back) since I was 12 or 13.
I have been to chiropractors, deep tissue massage therapy, and physiotherapy. I have been told it’s caused from bad posture, that I may have scoliosis, that it may be fibromyalgia and that I need orthotics. I recently got orthotics (about 2 months ago) and have had no relief.A few months ago my condition seemed to get worse and I now have sever neck pain. So bad to the point it hurts to keep my head lifted and I have to leave work (I work at tim hortons) I also experience craking in my back and neck all the time and also when I breathe. I was recently seeing a chiropractor and a scan of my back was done before treatment and after 12 sessions. Before my treatment the scan showed specific areas of pain that needed to be worked on but after the 12 sessions my chiropractor told me that it had improved and I should not be experiencing the pain that I am (Ihad not felt any relief at all from this treatment). Please help I can’t handel it anymore.
The doctor cannot give me an answer and keeps giving me anti depressants for chronic pain which just make me sleep at night and I do not take them because they make me feel groggy and have too many bad side effects.

Sarah, this seems to be a very complex case and several things concern me first of all the age you started having the pain 12? Was there a trama or accident that you can remember? No one can tell you when you should or shouldn’t feel pain…if you have it there is a reason. When you are referring to a scan I presume it’s an xray which would need to be seen. My question is woundering if your Chiropractor is just noting structural changes and if there were any other possible pathologies on the films. Next issue is the scoliosis issue…either you have it or you don’t and if you do how significant is it? If films were taken this question should easily be answered by your doctor. I suggest you ask you Chiropractor more questions and expect some more definitive answers and if he suspects any other possible problems he should be able to refer you to the right specialist. I am in my final 6 months of my Chiropractic education which has added up to 9 years 4 undergrad 4.5 graduate school
