Severe Knee Injury

am 19 year old, overweight female with no ligaments in my left knee. I was in a car accident in 2011 and in September of last year my knee finally dislocated, due to problems that occured in 01. When the dislocation occured it tore my ACL, PCL and MCL completly, but my LCL is torn slightly. I was taken to a hospital and a doctor, rather than transferring me to a large medical hospital, put an external fixator on my leg. About a month later, both my left and right leg hurt so much I couldn’t even walk. I then went to another ER where I was told I had DVT in both legs, as well as a staff infection(the kind that is easy to cure) in my pin sites. A doctor took the fixator off and clean my pin sites. I then got a MRI (the orginal doctor had not done one). Since then I have been walking with a brace and at first a walker, but now a cane. My leg is no where near as strong as it was before, but I am progressing. The problem I am having is that I can not find a doctor to repair my leg. I have been to large medical centers and no one wants to take me on as a patient. (My current Dr. -the one who took the fixator off, is not comfortable doing it because I live in a very small town and he normally does single ligament surgeries. I have no idea where to look for more doctors! I am being referred, but nothing is working out! Any suggestions or words of wisdom would be greatly appericiated!

Heather, I had a severe knee injury also. After going through four different doctors, I was finally referred to Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Ga. This place is literally the best or one of the best places in the country. My doctor was Dr. Champ Baker. I am currently going through some rehab, but he does miracles. Perhaps he can help you. Good luck!
