Shin stress fractures-electromagnetic therapy or other options?

(2 discussions)

i’ve been trying to heal from stress fractures in my shins since last august (i got them from running). the pain has gotten a lot better, but it is still not better. i have tried resting and icing and cross training with non-impact exercises and been very careful about nutrition, but they are still there. my doctor mentioned electromagnetic therapy as a possibility. any opinions on this or other suggestions? thanks! kate <><

As much as a pain that it would be, I’d recommend that you just rest for a month or so and start back fresh. I started out with a tibial stress fracture almost two years ago I’ve been through a cycle of various types problems including other stress fractues, recurrent ankle sprains, MCL sprin, achilles tendonitis, chronic shin splints, ect until about a month ago. I’ve found that the best thing to do is to just strat back fresh.

Judging from the fact that you’ve have numerous stress fracutures in just over 9 months, like fox said, I’d consider getting orthotics. I have a pair and finally found relief from my 3 month bout with shin splints in them.

    Good luck!

micro current supposedly increases cellular healing rates, which could help. nutrition is the way to go for sure, check out some orthotics to, could take some of the strain off of the legs. if you try electromagnetics, let me know, id be interested in hearing how it works!
