shoulder pain chronic

(2 discussions)

ok, I am 26 years old. I have been active in different sports. in high school I played tennis and one cold day I was serving the ball and had my shoulder pop out and pop right back in. I do have a pretty high threshold for pain. that shoulder seemed to have heeled up and is not really a problem and never really was, except for that incident.
also during high school some time after the tennis injury, I was playing basketball, and the same thing happened to my left shoulder. popped in and popped out. this has happened maybe two more times(could be more) since high school, which is about 10 years ago. for these 10 years I have always felt that my left shoulder was really weak. if I lift weights, which I don’t do often, my left side fails alot and I mean alot quicker than my right. I usually don’t sleep on my left side because it is painful, not a sharp pain, but more like my shoulder is getting tired. and when I do play sports, mainly basketball, my rendentcy is not to go put my left arm in positions where it could be pushed by another player. I feel like the slightest push at the top of my range will pop out my shoulder(when my arm is straight up). my left arm is usually the first part of me that gets tired first when I do play basketball. its almost like my right side is really powerful and my left side is useless. I have not had my shoulder pop in or pop out for a few years, but it doesn’t seem to be healing at all. I don’t play sports nearly as often as I use to, I don’t usually play at all in the winter. but still no healing in the left. I recently got into a car accident and got MRI’s on both shoulders. the orthopedist said that the MRI revealed a possible subluxation in my right side, but nothing serious on my left. which seems weird to me cause my left side is my problem. when I raise my ride shoulder I do hear a pop sound, which seem to come from where my right collar bone attaches with my sternum. but thats just a popping noise doesn’t really cause me any pain. is there any solution to my problem, do I need surgery? any possible diagnosis? I know I need a 2nd opinion, im not sure of the orthopedist who examined me. I little backround about me I am very slender guy. Thank you

I think you should ask your doc if you could go see a PT. You may have a muscle imbalance of your should musculature causing you all your problems. I had a patient that had a week muscle under his should blade and he kept getting shoulder injuries. An ortho doc most likely won’t catch that. Good Luck Mya PT
