Shoulder pain when doing pull-ups.

(2 discussions)

Just over four months ago, on April 17th, I was doing pull-ups (overhand). I tried to get a couple more than usual and felt a little twinge of pain in my right shoulder, sort of like a pull. Two days later I tried doing a set and the pain in my right shoulder was so intense that I couldn’t even do one. Before this I could do three sets of 9 to 12, or one set of 15. I have been to physical therapy, iced it, and done several exercises with the rubber tube. The shoulder feels a little better, but I still can’t even do one pull-up OR chin-up (underhand).

Any advice is appreciated,

I’d guess that you tore/pulled a muscle in your rotator cuff (probably supraspinatus). I would start in your doc’s office and then go through some physical therapy to control the inflammation and then restore strength to the area.

try accupuncture… I apparently dislocated my shoulder which has turned out to be ligament damage, torn ligaments in the front side and rear of my shoulder and accupuncture seems to be restoring the power I used to have in my shoulder… although this is taking a while 2 months now it seems to be working… took 4 or so treatments before I noticed any difference but in the following few treatments it has improved significantly… goodluck hope this helps
