Shoulder Taping?

I know that McConnell taping has been used successfully to treat Patella tracking problems, but I heard recently that it is also used for the taping of shoulders.
What diagnoses is this used for, how does the taping accomplish, and has it been proven to be effective.
IF anyone knows, I’d be very appreciative.-Brian Howells

Brian, I have used scapular taping very successfully with my stroke patients. I use it for anterior, inferior, and superior shoulder subluxations. The taping helps to realign the shoulder complex and greatly decreases pain in my patients. Once the pain is decreased we are able to better work in therapy to increase range of motion and strength in the affected arm. The tape has been very effective with my patients. For instance I just had a patient who could not use his arm for two years due to a painful shoulder. I spent 2-3 weeks strengthening his shoulder (after I taped it) and eventually he no longer needed the taping and was able to use his shoulder in all activities pain free. Tracie – OTR/L
