Siatic nerve

(7 discussions)

I am having quite a bit of pain in my lower back, left side, then continuing down my left leg. I’m almost positive this is a siatic nerve problem. I’m currently taking Motrin around the clock, which relieves it, but I don’t want to have to take NSAIDS all the time. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this non medicinally? I am an RN and have searched through all my nursing books, but have found zilch on this. If you could help I’d greatly appreciate it. My e-mail is [email protected]. Thank you.

There is an AWESOME book out by Mckenzie in regards to treating back pain. Check Amazon for it. If your lifting folks at work STOP IT! Your just aggrivating the situation and it’s not healing. In the meantime, lie on your stomach every two hours…even try to prop yourself up on your elbows…lie there 5-10 minutes and see how it affects your pain. Do NOT work through your pain… When your hurting get in the above position or any other position to releive the pain….this is called unloading the spine. Think of it like a sprained ankle…you would’nt walk on it all day because it wouldn’t heal, right? Well, if you work through back pain your not letting that heal either. Also, try a lumbar roll while your sitting…roll up a towel to a comfortable size and use it in your car, home and work. Get the book….it’s very good. Sorry, not sure of the title.

I recently hurt my back at work. I work with the elderly, and do alot of lifting. Because of workmens compensation, I had to go to the doctor. They didn’t even ex-ray my back.Barely touched it and said I had a pulled muscle. I know this is not a pulled muscle,it is a siatic nerve because I had it before. There is pain in my back (hip mostly) and it seems to go down my leg and sometimes in my groin area. I went back a second time, and the same thing happened. A pulled mulcle. After a couple of weeks on muscle relaxers and pain pills, I see no relief. Is there any thing I can do at home. Perhaps some exercises. This is really a common problem. I know so many people with this problem. Some are even on disability. Any info. will be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Barbara Thompson

Hello: I have only heard of electro therapy. It helped me before but can be very costly. Let me know if you hear of anything. I am only 31 and have days where I can’t even walk…like today. I can’t afford to see the therapist everyday either. Let me know if you discover our answer. God Bless! 🙂

I am pretty sure I have a siatic nerve problem. This has been going on for 3-4 weeks. the pain starts at my lower right back through by buttocks and then radiates down my legs. Motrin and asperin helps this. Will this go away by its self? Or do I need to do therapy doctor etcThank you
