Side of right foot, I fell

(3 discussions)

On July 4th, I was standing on a 1″ high mat, at the bottom of steps, and was talking to my cousin.
She went in the house, and I turned around and twisted my body and fell slowly on the sidewalk.
I was wearing a pair of sandals with a buckle on the side.
I fell to the right side and twisted my foot.
I hurt like mad right away, and my husband and another man, helped me up, since I didn’t want to apply any pressure on my foot.
I haven’t gone to the doctor or hospital.
I heard 2 pops when I was falling.
I now believe both were my knees, since I was twisting myself.
My foot swelled a few hours later and the black and blue marks on the side of my foot are roaming.
They were in the middle and now are in the back side underneath the ankle, and also slightly black and blue near my toes.
I put ice on it for 3 days, off and on.
I am trying to raise my foot for part of the day, it’s impossible to stay off it.
I’m also putting on an ace bandage and my shoe, and then I can walk better, with a limp.
Since it’s been 4 days and not getting any better, should I see a doctor or get an x-ray?
Or is it just a bad sprain?
I heard sprains are just as bad as broken bones.
The area of extreme pain is on the side, near the knob that sticks out on both of my feet, not really sticks out, but you can feel it.
Please let me know what I should do, and how long will this swelling and pain last approximately.
Thank You!

I always say “To see is to know, not to see is to guess.”You should have this checked out. The better care you take of it now, the sooner it will heal.

I went to the hospital and the small end of the side bone is broken. On Monday I’m supposed to get the foot casted. I’m wondering, if it can be pushed back in place. If not, I wouldn’t then have to get a big cast and be able to drive my child to work for the next 6 weeks. I told them I needed to drive home, so they didn’t make me go to the otho specialist today. Otherwise, I can just keep the foot plaster board (it got wet and hardened) and the 2 ace bandages wrapped on it, and they gave me a shoe boot. That way, when I have to drive, I can remove it and drive and then put it back on afterwards. My child cannot afford to miss work the next 6 weeks. Please let me know your answers. Thanks!

I can not tell you what you want to hear. Your best answer needs to come from the podiatrist or orthopedist you see. However, I doubt it would be possible to push it back into place and not need a cast or cast boot. It is very important that you have this treated properly so it can heal.
