SLAP tear

(2 discussions)

Orthopedic Surgeon diagnosed my son with a level 1 SLAP tear, said it was basically slightly frayed.
He suggested therapy and time off to allow this to heal itself.
My son had been told by his therapist that surgery was the only way to heal these.
Is surgery not required due to the fact that it is only frayed?

researching this myself, I have a type 2 tear and definitely getting surgery at http://www.hss.edu appears type 1 can be fixed with surgery by trimming the frayed areas, will result in less clicking, popping and pain..

What does it take to retear slap lesions after having them surgically fixed. I had surgery on my rt shoulder 3.5 weeks ago for a SLAP tear and to reattach the labrum to the bone. I am worried that I retore everything.
