Sleeping
(2 discussions)
Hi, I have a question about sleeping. I was wondering if it is bad for your neck/back to sleep with one pillow flat on the bed. I have heard that it is, and then I have heard that sleeping with your pillow arched up is bad as well. I have been having back and neck pains and have gone to a chiropractor twice to get tendons adjusted. Could this be due to sleeping with my pillow flat? Please let me know via email. Thanks,Adam Ailion

I think sleeping with no pillow often causes more problems than using one. You do not want a pillow that is huge thus having your head kinked at a 45 degree angle all night. A flat pillow is fine as long as it offers some support.

The number of pillows is not the issue. What you want is for your head and neck (cervical spine) to be in line with the rest of your back (thoracic & lumbar spine)when you lay down. This is of course assuming you are sleeping on your side…in the fetal position ideally.
