Small Pinky Toe Pain

I have had troubles for years with both of my small pinky toes.
The actual nail on my pinky toe is sort of split down the middle.
The very outer part of my pinky toes are very painful.
They are only painful to the touch, and especially when I wear shoes.
I am practically limping when I walk due to the pain.
If you were to look at my toes, it almost looks bruised.
And the nail has become very hard & thick as well.
Any ideas of what might be going on?
And suggestions on how to relieve this pain?

Often the toe is rotated and over time it hits the ground enough that a small bone spur develops on the distal phalanx. The nail gets deformed as well.
