Sprained arm

I have found many resources on the internet about sprained ankles and sprained wrists, but none about sprained arms (right below the elbow on the outside).

I am wondering if the recovery time is similar to ankle injuries. I thought (hope!) it might be less time because of the potential to truly rest the limb?

Also, aside from the obvious — go to the Dr — does anyone have any advice on speeding up the healing process. The injured person is a swimmer who injured it by falling during a soccer game.

It sounds like your friend probably bruised his/her elbow. However, it could be that they sprined thier radial collateral ligament. Inflammation of this ligament in a chronic form is called “tennis elbow” (I don’t know if you came across this or not). I would recommend resting for as long as there is pain, icing 20-30 minutes three times daily, using an ace wrap for compression, and using a sling. If this problem persist for a long time or is really bothorsome he/she should go see a doctor and get an x-ray to rule out a fracture.

    Hope this helps!
