Strange knee!

(7 discussions)

i injured my knee 12 weeks ago playing football. i landed directly on the top of my knee after going up to head the ball. at the time i had just a burning sensation and it felt numb just like after u have been to the dentist and the injection is wearing off. the numbness carried on for several weeks but i had no other reaction. 6 weeks after the injury my knee sudenly and for no apparent reason filled with blood to the size of a tennis ball and i was unable to bend it.i attended hospital and saw a specialist who told me to rest it and that it was caused due to the injury which damaged the busal sack? the swelling took two weeks to go down and now 12 weeks after the injury i still have the burning sensation with the slightest of touches? apart from the burning i have full use of the knee, any suggestions on the burning cos football season is about to start!!

the friction on my knee felt very strange. I had spent a few weeks not letting anything touch that area of my knee. Then all of a sudden a Physio put a finger right on that sore spot and rubs it hard. Something in the back of my mind thinks “NO DON’T DO THAT!!”
But I didn’t find it that painful. But then doing Ju jitsu, we have to like pain, we attack nerve points and things, compared to that it was quite mild. Bearing in mind as well that my injury was already 5 weeks old when the friction was started, so it had started healing by then. Maybe that’s why!!

How’s your knee now? Both the ligament and the numbness??

The numbness sounds like the same thing I have experienced many times before. I do Judo and have come down hard on my knees several times. It hurts like hell at the time, and after the skin is numb and if I lightly run a finger over the skin it tingles a little way away from where I am touching. (It’s a bit like a pins & needles feeling, but more tingly!!)

The numbness can last for months, but it’s just nerve damage. They take a while to grow back. To be honest I am not sure I don’t have permanent numbness, as if I do I am now used to it and can’t tell!!! If so, it doesn’t bother me!!!! By the time it goes you are used to it and it can be difficult to know if it’s still there!!

I don’t know about the swelling, but the other bit sounds like what I have had. Painfull, but I don’t think it’s serious. If you are worried keep nagging ’till you get an answer. No point sitting back, only to find out later it was something that needed attention.

    Hope it sorts itself out.
