Stress Fractures….shin

Hi All,
I’ve been suffering major pain on the inside of my right shin, about 1 inch above my ankle for over a year now. I’ve been to see an orthopedic person, whos took bone scans and said I had stress fractures, but also noticed on the scans that I had slight stress fractures in the same place on my left leg too. He told me to give it 5 months and go back.

I returned to see him and he took xrays, which showed that the bone around where the stress fractures are has built itself out (it sticks out on the xray). Hes advised me that the only thing he can think of doing is screwing a metal plate to my shin to help the problem.

This has frightened me because I hate the thought of operations.

I’ve also started to notice of the last 2 month that the pain is starting to spread to my ankle bone (the bump below your ankle on the inside), does this mean anything?

Is there anything else I could be doing?

I’ve only been playing football/soccer for 1 hours per week, and dont understand how this has caused this.

Thanks

Shaun
